Back to the Deep Sea Nature: La Mer Celebrates World Oceans Day 2014

Wednesday, June 11, 2014

What makes me fall in love to the nature? It's the ocean, and there's limitless hidden powers hiding under the sea and yet to be discovered; also the extraordinary beauty of the ocean - which is what La Mer loves the most!

La Mer will celebrate World Oceans Day 2014 through a partnership with the National Geographic Society for the third consecutive year, to help support the next generation of emerging ocean explorers. This year La Mer is celebrating the work of conservation biologist Andrea Marshall.

World Oceans Day
Created in 1992 and made official by the United Nations in 2009, World Oceans Day takes place annually on June 8. It serves as a time to recognize the importance of the sea as a vital ecosystem and to take action to preserve its delicate habitats and wildlife.

To date, La Mer has donated almost USD2 million to organizations to promote ocean conservation efforts.

To commemorate World Oceans Day, a 100ml jar of Crème de la Mer with a new limited-edition design will be available in June 2014.

La Mer, ‘The Sea’
La Mer’s founder, Dr. Max Huber, recognized the value of the living ocean when he pioneered the use of sea kelp in the cream that renewed and restored the look of his skin. Today, in a tribute to his legacy, La Mer continues to help support the natural habitat of this special sea plant by only using sea kelp that has been sustainably hand harvested.

From Accident to Miracle
The story of the Miracle Broth™ and the legendary Crème de la Mer is one of hope and perseverance, meticulous science and the restorative power of the sea. Half a century ago, aerospace physicist Dr. Max Huber suffered burns in a laboratory accident and began a personal quest to transform the look of his skin. He believed the sea was a miraculous resource and sea kelp, in particular, captured his imagination. With its endless ability to regenerate itself, its nourishing properties and the powerful way it retained moisture, it held promise and hope. 12 years passed. 6,000 experiments were conducted. Finally, he perfected the precious, nurturing Miracle Broth™, which he incorporated into Crème de la Mer, the very first La Mer formula.

Simply luxurious, this year's WOD CDML once again bring the classy look: a soft turquoise jar and its seriously melts our heart! I have the urge of diving now... How about you?
