Monday, August 12, 2013

It's been a while I spotted meteor shower last time, and now Malaysians will be able to sight up a display of more than 100 Perseid meteor showers starting 11pm tonight to dawn on Tuesday.

The Perseid meteor showers occurs as the Earth passes through the Swift-Tuttle comet’s dusty trail and its debris hurtle into the planet’s atmosphere and flare up in brilliant meteors or shooting stars.

Mhd Fairos Asillam, head of space science research unit from National Space Agency (Angkasa) said that the annual event which occurs every August was among the most spectacular as it was clearer and brighter than others and visible to the naked eye.

The meteor shower could have started on July 24 and it’s expected to be observed until August 17 and expected to reach Malaysia tonight 11pm. The Perseid meteor shower has been observed for about 2,000 years, with the first known sighting from the Far East.

So tonight, gather your family and friends to camp under the big beautiful sky, and be sure to get your camera ready!
